Family Holidays

Holidays to Cancun deal in white‑sand beaches and All Inclusive luxury resorts on the Caribbean coast. You’ve also got vibrant nightlife, modern malls and a dose of Mayan history, plus Blue Flag beaches and natural gems across the Yucatán Peninsula.

Where to stay: the Hotel Zone vs Downtown

Cancun has gone from humble fishing town to major holiday player since the 1970s. It's the big name on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, and is split into a couple of main spots – Downtown Cancun brings hectic markets and buzzing cantinas, while the Hotel Zone is about that All Inclusive life, plus a restaurant and bar scene worth taking note of. Plus, Cancun International Airport is pretty close, so it's rare to have a lengthy transfer once you touch down. On the beach front, it's worth remembering that this part of Mexico sometimes sees higher levels of sargassum seaweed, brought on by weather and ocean currents. Don't fret though, hotel teams work hard to clear it and keep the sands as clear as possible.

Caribbean beaches and winter sun

A picturesque 22 kilometres of white shoreline run along Cancun’s Hotel Zone, making it a favourite for winter‑sun escapes in December and January. The north side offers tranquil, protected waters thanks to nearby Isla Mujeres, while the east side faces the Caribbean Sea, serving up turquoise tones. The area is packed with luxury All Inclusive resorts, but it’s worth noting that beaches here can occasionally see sargassum seaweed, influenced by weather and ocean currents.

World-famous nightlife and Spring Break

Cancun nights range from high‑energy clubs to relaxed beachfront bars, especially around the Hotel Zone, where venues feature light shows, guest DJs like Tiësto, and performances with acrobats and impersonators. You’ll also find sports bars, lounges, and restaurants with live music, plus cultural events like ballet at the Convention Centre. Many resorts keep the party going with their own all‑night bars and clubs, particularly at adults‑only All Inclusive hotels.

Mayan ruins and family adventures

Mexico’s Mayan heritage is easy to explore from Cancun, with daytrips to Tulum just 90 minutes’ drive away. Set on 40‑foot cliffs, the site features standout ruins like El Castillo, the Temple of the Descending God, and the Temple of the Frescoes with its detailed murals. The iconic Chichén Itzá is another major archaeological highlight for family holidays in Cancun, though it’s a little further away. Many family friendly All Inclusive resorts also offer on‑site waterparks, adding extra adventure to a Cancun holiday.
