How can I prepare for security?

Prepare for security screening

Get ready while you're in the queue to help everyone move through faster.

Before the scanner

Remove these items and place them in a tray:

• Your belt
• Items from your pockets (keys, coins, phone)
• Outdoor clothing and boots or heeled shoes

Liquids and gels

Pack all liquids in containers of 100ml or less. This includes water, creams, perfumes, hand sanitiser and food. Place them in one clear, resealable plastic bag (maximum size: 20cm x 20cm). Put your bag in a separate tray.

Lighters must go in this bag too. Torch lighters aren't allowed on board.

Electronics

Take out large electrical items and place them flat in a separate tray:

• Laptops and tablets
• E-readers
• Hair straighteners

Make sure they're charged - you might need to switch them on.

New airport scanners

Some UK airports have new scanners that let you keep electronics in your bag and carry larger liquid containers. We recommend following current guidelines for now, especially for your return flight.
