Villas del Lago

Stayed at this hotel for 1 week as a family with an almost 3 year old. We had a bungalow. We emailed ahead to ask for early check in due to our little one still napping. To our delight the bungalow was ready. Lovely glass of champers on arrival. Unfortunately it’s not quite the family hotel we had hoped for. The bungalow is quite compact, I think 4 people in there would be very cramped. It had very basic cooking amenities- 2 ring hob, no oven, x2 pots x1 small frying pan and some plates and basic cutlery. We had no bowls but asked reception and they brought us some along with a high chair. Air con works great, beds are comfy and slept well on them. Daily clean and the cleaner was happy to adapt the times to work in with our little ones nap. Nice wee playground which our wee one loved and chickens and an organic garden. The nice maintenance crew even left some food at the bungalow so our wee one could feed the chickens. The pool is small and the sunbeds are few but didn’t have an issues getting any in the morning. Height of summer might be a different story. The pool is clean and fresh water but very cold so our little one really didn’t like being in for long and also it sloped quite deep so not ideal for wee ones to play safely not fully in the water. WiFi was good and solid but the tele only had x2 British speaking channels (CNN and sky news!) not really what you want on holiday but technically you don’t come on holiday to watch tele. A definite downfall is that children under 16 can’t use the restaurants or pool within the hotel it’s all adults only. This was a shame considering it’s shown as a family hotel. You can order for collection if you fancied. It can be noisy at night due to stray dogs and the big recycling bins right outside and people constantly putting things in and letting the lids slam shut. Walls are pretty thin between bungalows so if next door are having a great night and you’re in bed you’ll definitely hear it. But we were lucky and didn’t have many disturbances. We went to the aquarock water park which if you stayed all day was worth it the €55 admission plus €7 for 2 sunbeds. Nice pool area with slides for toddlers but again water was freezing cold. There are loads of restaurants along the marina so you are spoiled for choice. X2 with soft play inside which was great. Food is ok nothing to write home about but cooked well and hot. There is a wee arcade and shopping centre with lots of little playground rides at a €1 each ride so we spent a lot of time in those and they are all shaded which is great. Beach was lovely, very clean and well kept although you have to get a swipe card to use the toilet in the restaurant. Sea was actually warmer than the pools. Such fun bouncing in the waves. Again pay for sunbeds - €21 for x2 with a parasol. The grounds are all well maintained and clean and I can’t fault the hotel, if we messaged or went to them they helped in every way they could. The supermarkets are good and decently stocked - I did struggle to get some veggies that weren’t frozen but all in all it they catered for our self catering needs. There are no laundry facilities in the bungalows but I found a nice laundry place 10 mins away in ciutadella which was 6 euro a wash and between €4-6 for drying. Whole thing took about an hour. Wee coffee machine and couch to chill while things wash. Great find if you’re needing to refresh some clothes. Everything you could need is within walking distance so with a buggy it’s no issue. We did want to do a boat trip but it’s from 3 years and up so that was us out and winds were very high so no trips for 2 days of our visit. This hotel was good and like everywhere has its pros and cons but if we went back we may do the villa instead especially with our wee one.

We booked a package holiday with Jet2, arrived on Friday for 7 nights, our transfer was quicker than we thought and we arrived at the hotel around 1:30 but our bungalow wasn't ready, we were offered a drink, storage for our bags and the use of the toilet/shower, we were placed in Bungalow 10, which was beautiful, they all are, clean, daily housekeeping, there is a kettle, toaster, coffee machine, single hob, fridge freezer, the pool could be doing with a few more sunbeds but we never had any issue getting one and you can actually use your patio too as it is so close, there was a generator at the side of our bungalow that I raised with the hotel via watsapp and was moved bungalow almost immediately to Bungalow 18, we arrived to a bottle of wine, and a platter of pastries and fruit. You are just steps away from the marina, with plenty eateries and a few shops, pharmacy, supermarket etc but this isn't overly loud to disturb you, as soon as you are in your bungalow it is quiet, there is no noise from outside or other bungalows, and you get a little music if your sitting outside in the evening. We feel it is expensive stay but worth it for a main family summer holiday. Absolutely loved the whole trip, and looking to book for next summer.
