Playa de Muro holidays

Alcudia

Holidays to Playa de Muro give you a long, sandy beach, laid-back nights and a fantastic national park right on your doorstep.

A Majorcan retreat

Playa de Muro, on Majorca’s northeast coast, has successfully made the leap from fishing village to holiday centre without losing its laidback appeal. It’s surrounded by a national park and is roughly split into two areas – the quietly secluded Alcudia Pins and Las Gaviotas, which has most of the pubs and bars. The place is also conveniently close to Alcudia, which comes with a picturesque marina and an historic old town.

White-sand beach

Playa de Muro’s main draw is its beach. You’ve got five kilometres of pristine Blue Flag sand, divided up into sections which have their own supply of bars as well as a lifeguard. Fish swim round your ankles in the shallow waters, and there’s a host of watersports to try.

A family welcome

Another great thing about Playa de Muro is how well it’s geared up for families. Despite being in Spain, the restaurants usually have children’s menus that cater for British tastes. And activity-wise, there’s the Amaze’n Laberintos Fun Park – a huge wooden maze with games to play in it. Plus, about 10 minutes’ down the road, you have a go-karting track at Ca’n Picafort.

Day out in Alcudia and Palma

Alcudia is only 15 minutes away by bus. There’s the coastal part, with its marina, shops and bars, and the inland old town that you’ll find behind Medieval walls. Its Moorish good looks seep through narrow alleyways and tiny squares, and San Jaume Church is worth a look. Or an hour’s drive gets you to the capital, Palma, for cosmopolitan cafés and a Gothic cathedral.
