Valle Gran Rey holidays
Jump to sections
Holidays to Valle Gran Rey take you to a place where the jade-green mountainside meets the sapphire-blue sea.
The Valley of the Great King
Valle Gran Rey, which translates as Valley of the Great King, is one of the most popular places in La Gomera. The resort is situated on the island’s west coast, and is made up of a collection of traditional towns and villages that cascade down the mountainside to the Atlantic Ocean below.
Black-sand beaches
Like many of the volcanic Canary Islands, the beaches around Valle Gran Rey are made of striking black sand and turquoise waters. There’s a handful to pick between, from the popular La Puntilla and La Playa, to smaller family favourites like Charco del Conde. There’s the harbour in the Vueltas district, too, where Crayola-coloured fishing boats bob up and down in the waves.
Green hills
The valley carves a path through the UNESCO-protected Garajonay National Park in the centre of the island. Head up into the hills, and you’ll notice the characteristic, traditional farmed terraces that staircase their way up the mountainous countryside. Naturally, this part of the world is great for hiking – just don’t forget your camera, because the views are fantastic.
