PortAventura World holidays pair the thrills of Spain’s biggest family friendly amusement park with the laid‑back charm of the Costa Dorada coastline. And, the buzz of Salou and Barcelona is right on your doorstep.
A whopping three million annual visitors head to PortAventura World resort on the Costa Dorada. The giant theme park is what brings most of them in, but the town also flaunts a huge sandy beach. For more excitement, Salou’s bars and restaurants are just five minutes’ drive away, and it’s a one-hour train to Barcelona.
Ferrari Land turns up the adrenaline with a mix of record‑breaking thrills and Italian heritage. At its heart is the Red Force coaster, a steel giant that shoots riders to 110 miles per hour and climbs to 112 metres, making it one of Europe’s most extreme coaster experiences. Younger racers get their own slice of the action in the dedicated children’s racing area, where mini‑coasters and driving adventures bring the Ferrari spirit down to kid‑friendly size. Between rides, the park’s authentic trattorias, recreated landmarks and live shows celebrate the brand’s heritage.
PortAventura’s Caribe Aquatic Park comes with its own manmade tropical beach, where palms, lagoons and Bahama Beach set the scene between rides. Thrill fans can take on King Khajuna, the 31‑metre freefall slide, or splash along the Coral Bay water coaster. For real shoreline time, Salou’s lively beaches are just five minutes away, while Cambrils offers quieter sands about 20 minutes’ drive from the resort.
PortAventura Park spans six themed areas – from the Far West and Mexico to China, Polynesia, the Mediterranean and Sesame Street – each with its own standout ride. China hosts the heavy hitters, with Shambhala’s huge hills and Dragon Khan twisting through eight loops. The Mediterranean zone launches you into action with Furius Baco, while the Far West adds Diablo Neo, a mixed‑reality coaster experience. Families can explore adventures like the Makamanu Jungle Trek, and evenings wrap up with the FiestAventura firework show across the lake.
Barcelona’s an easy one‑hour train journey from PortAventura. The city showcases Gaudi’s architecture, from the soaring La Sagrada Familia to his colourful modernist designs across the city. Down by the waterfront, you’ll spot Frank Gehry’s fish sculpture, a standout of Barcelona’s contemporary art scene. After sightseeing, Las Ramblas offers tapas bars, street performers and a lively atmosphere for winding down.
