Some of the best family hotels in the Costa Dorada sidle up to PortAventura World, the biggest theme park in Europe. Take the Hotel PortAventura — it serves up a couple of swimming pools and three restaurants on the outskirts of the park. Others drop anchor in Salou, the closest beach resort to PortAventura.
Child-friendly Costa Dorada
This sandy southern coast of Spain is great for families. Seafront fairgrounds, waterparks, international restaurants and mini-golf courses all play to those travelling with little ones.
And there’s a huge range of beaches to skip between — from the lively, lounger-lined stretch in Salou to the peaceful coves at neighbouring Cap de Salou.
Daytrips to Barcelona
Barcelona is just a 90-minute train ride away from easterly beach resorts like Salou. Football fans can swing by Nou Camp football ground — you might even be lucky enough to catch a match while you’re there. If football’s not your thing, watch the buskers and magicians on Las Ramblas or climb up to the fairy tale-esque Parc Güell.
