An unspoilt spot

You’ll find Torrent de Cala Pi in Majorca’s sunny south. The town spreads out along the coast in the shape of a boomerang, flanked by a sandy cove to the west and a strip of craggy rock to the east. The steep, hilly coastline makes building around here tricky, which means the area’s one of the least developed on the island – great news if you’re looking for somewhere with a bit of unspoilt natural beauty.

Beach time, bagged

Torrent de Cala Pi’s biggest calling card is its beach. It’s only about 50 metres wide, but stretches back double that distance from the sea, so it’s nice and sheltered. You’ll need to navigate a set of rocky steps to reach the sand. And it won’t be long before you set eyes on the water, which is calm, shallow, and a shade of blue usually reserved for swimming pools. Be sure to grab your snorkelling gear before you set off – the water’s home to shoals of monkfish and even the odd octopus.

When you’re not splashing about in the sea, there’s plenty more to keep you occupied here. The western end of the town’s speckled with restaurants and bars – loads of them come with outdoor seating. Dinners with sea views on the side? Sorted. The old watchtower – dating back to the 1600s – on the cliff in front of the beach is worth a nose at, too. And if you’re more of a hiker than a history buff, you can follow the marked trail that winds its way along the cliff edge on the opposite side of the bay.
