Holidays to Sesmarias take you to a pocket-sized beach town in the Algarve. Here, you'll find great restaurants and beaches, and you're only three kilometres from lively Albufeira.
This rapidly developing town on the Algarve’s southern coast is home to a handful of stylish villas and hotels. There’s a main road dotted with bars and restaurants, off which you’ll find all the beaches. And since you’re only a few kilometres west of Albufeira, you’re well-set if you want to sample the nightlife and shopping that this buzzing city has to offer, too.
Nowhere does beaches better than the Algarve – nearly 100 of them line up along this stretch of coast. You could argue over which is the best, but Sao Rafael, with its wide, golden sands and modern beach café, is definitely up there. And its surrounding cliffs and sand dunes make for some scenic coastal walks, too.
It’s a half-an-hour drive to Silves, one of Portugal’s prettiest towns. Back in the day, this was a Moorish capital, and you can still see a castle and a cathedral from that period. There are charming, cobbled streets dotted with orange and lemon trees, plus a landscaped central square. And when you’re done exploring, you can take a seat at one of the pavement cafés by the river.
