Naxxar holidays
Jump to sections
Holidays to Naxxar put all of Malta’s best bits within easy reach.
A traditional town
Naxxar’s a small town in central Malta, around 15 minutes’ drive from the island’s north coast. And despite being less than half an hour from the capital, Valletta, there’s a real village feel to this place. The old part of the town’s full of houses with wooden balconies adorned with flowers, broken up by the odd small chapel and public garden. Plus, a crop of cafés near the central square offers up plenty of opportunity to mingle with the locals.
Nods to the past
If you’re into your history, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled as you walk around Naxxar – the town’s full of time-stamped landmarks. The two big hitters in the main square are a 17th-century Baroque church and the lavish Parisio Palace, which has been dubbed a miniature Versailles. Over by the coast, a pair of defence towers built when Malta was ruled over by the British still stand, after being restored in recent years.
Daytrips by the dozen
Thanks to Naxxar’s spot in the middle of Malta, exploring the island from here is easy. Valletta’s narrow streets, grand squares and Mediterranean gardens are just half an hour away in a taxi, and it’s only 15 minutes to the nearest beaches in St Paul’s Bay. Mdina’s practically on your doorstep, too. This tiny walled city was built at the top of a hill, so it lines up widescreen views of the Maltese countryside and the sea.
