Tholos holidays
Jump to sections
With a long beach, Brit-style cafés and an authentic hilltop village, Tholos holidays are equal parts 21st-century and traditional.
Old and new
Sitting on the north-west coast of Rhodes, Tholos is a tale of two halves. Tholos generally refers to the hotels and cafés near the beach, while Theologos is the tiny Greek village on the hilltop behind. They’re only a five-minute drive apart, which means you get the best of both – a tourist-friendly beach resort and a taste of real Greece.
Hideaway beach
There’s a good breeze down on the beach, which means the sky’s peppered with kitesurfers. Despite that, it makes for a quiet, uncrowded retreat. And the further west or east you stroll, the sands are stripped of sunbeds and backed by meadows.
Village sights
Spend an afternoon wandering the narrow streets of Theologos, making sure to stop and stare at the whitewashed Agios Spiridonas church. If you’ve got a hire car, a trip to nearby Petaloudes – AKA Valley of the Butterflies – is a must. Here, you can watch butterflies flutter their way around a 200-acre park.
