Holidays to Kalo Nero put you at the centre of one of Europe's best beaches, and within driving distance of ancient temples and ruins.

Olive oil territory

When you bed down in the sleepy beach resort of Kalo Nero, you’ll be just an hour’s drive away from the town of Kalamata. This place is famous for its olives – a Greek favourite – and there are plenty of factories and mills that can give you the lowdown on the cold-press process. The Giannopoulos Olive Oil Factory – a five-minute drive from Kalo Nero – is just one of the local spots to give tours.

Ancient ruins

History-lovers are in for a treat in Kalo Nero. The temple complex of Olympia, which was also the venue of the first Olympic Games, is within day-tripping distance, at just an hour’s drive away. Closer to home – five minutes’ car journey away – there’s a smattering of tombs outside Kyparissia that date back to the 16th century BC.

Nature hikes

The countryside around Kalo Nero is ideal for both serious hikes and gentle strolls. Put your walking boots to the test with a trip to the Neda waterfalls. After a 45-minute drive, it’s a kilometre-long trek to the top. But you can reward yourself with a refreshing dip in its turquoise waters once you get there. For a lazier option, wander up to the Kyparissia Castle – a 10-minute drive out of town – and watch the sunset.
