Lixouri holidays
Jump to sections
Holidays to Lixouri take you to an authentic Greek town in Kefalonia, where you've got your pick of the beaches, and easy access to the island capital, too.
Traditional Greek living
Lixouri might be Kefalonia’s second-biggest town, but it’s still a chilled out place where the pace is set firmly to slow. Life here revolves around the main square, where you’ll find shops, bars and pavement cafés. There are sights dotted around, like the lighthouse and museum, but really the beaches are the star turn.
A laidback beach
Although its a couple of kilometres from town, Lepada Beach, is considered one of the best in the area. Its rare, orange-tinged sands slope gently into shallow waters, and you’ll find rock-pools for paddling in. There are loungers and umbrellas to rent, as well as a beach bar for snacks. And, unusually, you’ve even got a church and the remains of an old monastery on the sands.
Near Argostoli
Regular ferries make the 20-minute journey across the bay to Argostoli, the island's capital. This authentic Greek town has a handful of museums and churches to explore, as well as the famous 19th-century Drapano Bridge. And down by the harbour, you can stroll along the palm-lined prom, or just kick back with a coffee in one of the cafés on the main square.
