MYRTOS BEACH – KEFALONIA

Hidden between the feet of two mountains, Myrtos Beach presents one of the most pristine arcs of white sand you’ll find in Greece. Couple that with a lightning flash of turquoise waters and it’s no wonder this beach in Kefalonia has taken over on the Instagram stakes. Famed for its dramatic view from above, the mile-long strip of sand is best viewed top-down from a winding road that takes you to its entrance. This swathe of sand is also the filming location of the romantic Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. And, once on the beach, you’ll fall in love with the marble-coloured pebbles leading you to the water’s edge.

ELAFONISI BEACH – CRETE

If rose is your colour, you’ll love the blush-tinted sand at Elafonisi Beach. Pink’s not the only colour getting attention at this unspoilt stretch of sand, though. Dip into its shallow gin-clear waters, sunbathe on ice-white sands and take in the scent of cedar trees and lilies that decorate the bay. Crete’s a pretty big name when it comes to beaches, so if you don’t fancy Elafonisi then head to Vai, another beach basking in the limelight. Things don’t get much closer to paradise here – the beach is home to Europe’s largest natural palm grove and comes complete with 500 densely clustered trees and a tropical oasis. It’s so gorgeous, in fact, that Bounty adverts made it famous back in the 1970s where it was rightly referred to as a “taste of paradise”.

ST. PAUL’S BAY – RHODES

An aerial view of St Paul’s Bay reveals the natural heart shape of this beach, so it’s no surprise that many people choose to tie the knot at the white chapel that gives the bay its name. The bay also come complete with plenty of tavernas selling platters of fresh fish and coves made for snorkelling. Tear yourself away from the sands and just around the corner you’ll find Lindos and its ancient Acropolis, perfect for wandering around ancient crumbling walls and taking in the sweeping views of the bay.

SHIPWRECK BEACH – ZANTE

Zante’s Shipwreck Beach scoops the award for the most photographed beach in Greece. Also known as Navagio Beach and Smugglers Cove, it can only be reached by boat and is enclosed by steep cliffs, giving it a pretty exclusive feel. Keep an eye out for the abandoned smugglers’ ship, too. It’s been beached on the sands for over 30 years ago after hitting rocks while being pursued by the Greek navy who suspected it was carrying contraband cigarettes. Fancy paying it a visit? Take a boat from Zakynthos Town or check out tours from neighbouring islands.
