Thinking about where to go on your next romantic break? We’ve pulled together a list of holiday destinations to help. There’s Paris, with its candlelit dinners overlooking the Eiffel Tower, and St Lucia, where couples’ spa treatments are offered on tropical beaches. Or, if you want to try somewhere a bit different, this list of romantic getaway spots are just as charming. So, whether it’s your first holiday together, or you’re newlyweds heading off on your honeymoon, we’ve got the perfect destination for you. Once you’ve decided where to go, take a look at our last minute deals.
Blue seas, white volcanic cliffs, beaches made for watching the sunset - Greece has all the ingredients for the perfect loved-up break. Whether you hop across the islands on a romantic weekend, or head to the Med for a summer getaway, Greece definitely delivers as a destination for couples. Take a culinary tour of the tasty local food on the Taste Zante excursion, head off on a 4x4 adventure in Crete, or soak up some sun on a trip to Mykonos - It’s home to a number of secluded beaches perfect for topping up your tan in private... and they’re great proposal spots, too. Temperatures rarely dip below 15 degrees in Greece, but we suggest going from July to September for the best weather.
You'll feel like you’re on your own private island in Cape Verde. The country’s sandy beaches and lunar-like landscapes are still almost untouched, so you’ll have plenty of space to fall in love with the islands while reconnecting with your partner. Walk hand-in-hand around Boa Vista, Cape Verde’s pretty capital city, or dine on the beach while the sun sets for the ultimate romantic meal. Up the romance by staying at the Hotel Riu Touareg, which has an exclusive adults-only area with a swimming pool and restaurant. Choose a room with a hot tub for the ultimate indulgence. There’s also a selection of relaxing treatments like Swedish massages and adults-only Turkish baths on offer. Head to Cape Verde in spring or early summer to catch a glimpse of giant humpback whales splashing around in the sea.
When it comes to romantic getaways, St Lucia really hits the spot. This Caribbean island is all about luxury, making it a popular honeymoon destination. Stay in secluded resorts like the BodyHoliday hotel, which is surrounded by 32 acres of gardens and set right on the powder-white beach. The focus here is on wellness – treat yourself to spa treatments like lime and ginger body scrubs at the Wellness Centre, and plenty of fresh, healthy food in the restaurants. There also the adults-only Hideaway at Royalton St Lucia, which offers up rainfall showers, cosy DreamBeds™, and an infinity pool. Plus, there are tonnes of activities designed to bring you closer together in St Lucia, like zip-lining through the rainforest, or treating yourself to a dip in the mud baths at Sulphur Springs - the world's only drive-through volcano.
Think Rome and Venice are Italy’s most romantic holiday destinations? Think again. Sorrento has enough pretty scenery and date-night opportunities to make the rest of Italy jealous. Think intimate cruises to Capri, where you can snorkel in the warm waters and explore the narrow lanes of Capri Town. Or, ditch the beach and head to one of Sorrento’s famous bathing platforms, which are positioned under the cliffs and offer up panoramic sea views. Stay at the TUI BLUE Atlantic Palace for an adults-only escape, with views across the sea to Mount Vesuvius, and a rooftop bar – great for clinking champagne flutes after a proposal. July and August can see Sorrento reaching highs of 30 degrees, so if you’re seeking some sun, we’d recommend going then.
Iceland’s cold climate makes it a dreamy option for a romantic holiday, with the country’s low temperatures giving you the perfect excuse to snuggle up to your partner in crime. Catch the northern lights flickering across the sky while hand-in-hand with your other half – we recommend going in between September and April for your best chances of spotting them – and take a dip in the Blue Lagoon to warm up. Explore Reykjavik, one of the coldest cities in the world, and snap selfies together in front of huge natural wonders like Gullfoss Waterfall on the Golden Circle tour – the cost of this excursion is included in the price of your break.
