Hotel Riu Touareg

After reading some not so good reviews, I was a little worried. On arriving it seemed massive a bit daunting but once you've got your bearings it's fine and they give you a map On arrival. I can't fault the hotel, it's very clean the food is lovely as are the people who Work there. They all work so hard to insure you enjoy your stay. I enjoyed the entertainment which is also the animation team most nights, they were funny. The sea was a bit rough so we weren't able to get in it everyday but we had about 10 days out of 14 so we were chuffed with that. Be careful when getting in or out it can knock you over and roll you about, we laughed so hard, but it can be dangerous. We went into Sal Rei a couple of times €60 both ways. Nice beaches and restaurants. We were lucky enough to paddle with young sharks when we were there. We had an amazing time, I would definitely go back if there wasn't so many other wonderful places to visit. There isn't anything to do on the island really which is perfect for the ones who want relaxation and No stress.

I really didn't want to be one of the people saying "don't do it" and although it did do what it said on the tin it still wasn't somewhere I'd ever return to. The room was horrible! Open plan with the bathroom so the smell of sewage in the bedroom actually became fairly overpowering and looked nothing like the lovely pictures online just so you know! The rooms were kept very clean I have to say and when they had added cleaning products to the loo it was manageable... for the few mins before you flushed it and then it returned again! No bath! I wasn't expecting that oddly! We were in the adults only area which I thought would be better however other than being able to get Prosecco (after 18:30) and Mojito's which you can't get anywhere else on site, the other facilities actually seemed in worse condition than anywhere else. The maintenance team came to the pool one day with a fork and some filler and chucked some mosaic tiles down. I've never seen anything like it. Plus so many tiles are missing... ultimately the whole pool needs redoing but I could still live with it. The main areas of the hotel really weren't for us and one of the Speciality Restaurants I walked out of as the food was disgusting! The food in the main restaurant is fairly good and the asian restaurant was good as well. The cocktails are so full of sugar and synthetic, my ears were buzzing constantly! Cleaners were outside the toilets constantly and they were spotless. So they are doing all they can. I did still end up ill the day I got home mind you but it wasn't life changing. I don't know where the "no stress" thing comes from as I didn't find the staff to be that relaxed or that friendly. They were fine. Our safe locked us out just before we were due to leave at 11:45. I was told at 09:30 that someone would be there to open it. They didn't come until 11:30, despite four calls I had to make chasing them up, casually strolling along, so maybe the "no stress" thing comes in situations like that! The beach was fantastic. One of the best we've been to in the world and you feel like it's all yours. I'm not a big sea swimmer so I didn't mind not going in and my husband fished on one evening which was magically. Other than the massive pile of waste - mainly plastic bottles from the hotel, at the back of the beach, it was stunning. The guys with the stalls on the beach were friendly and informative. The restaurant were also great when we asked for fishing bate, giving us a whole bag of king prawns! You can get the rods from the stalls. On this holiday, it was Sunny in the mornings so it was good to get some vitamin D but overall I actually, really sadly, just wanted to go home. For the money, it did what it said on the tin but not one part of this place is 5 or even 4 star!

Iv just returned from hotel touareg and I couldn't fault anything about it . I'd seen some worrying reviews and honestly don't know what this was about the food was amazing and iv never seen so much choice of delicious high quality food, the rooms were really big, clean and comfy and the beach was beautiful and pool areas clean and plenty of sunbeds ,staff so lovely and nothing too much trouble . If theres one place you should visit in cape verde its definitely this hotel . It will be one of my favourite hotels and holidays I will definitely return 100 % !!
