With its great dining scene and beachfront setting, it’s no wonder this hotel is a favourite with TripAdvisor reviewers. It earned yet another Travellers' Choice award in 2016.
This hotel looks a like a sandcastle – appropriate really, given it fringes one of Boa Vista’s best beaches.
Glossy lawns and courtyards surround the Hotel Riu Touareg, creating a real sense of privacy. There’s also an adults-exclusive area with a swimming pool and an à la carte restaurant. that you'll get access to if you stay in the adults-only rooms.

Just returned from 14 nights , our second visit here last time Oct 2013.The hotel has almost doubled in size since our last visit but doesn't seem any more busy. Still crowded around the pool but as the beach is only steps away and has loads of free sun beds and parasols no problem. Slightly cheaper room this visit 5234 nice location closer to main area but still quiet . Nice size with plenty of clothes space comfortable bed , not much privacy in shower room but again no problem for us.There is no more around than in 2013the hotel so don't go expecting to be able to pop out for a stroll and find a bar or shop .I can echo the majority of the reviews the staff give their all in all areas and always with a smile. There is generally something good to eat in the restaurant and the drinks although not branded are ok.This time we are in the Italian and Asian speciality restaurants .Both were nice but only buffet but you do get a whole carafe of wine to yourself. One minor niggle was in the main restaurant there are plates at both ends of the hot food serving areas , which means people come from both directions and meet in the middle. All in all had a great time and a total chill out holiday , with 14 days of 30 + degree temperatures .More
On paper a very nice hotel, with great facilities. The weather was superb. There was an outbreak of Gastroenteritis in the hotel, and on the island of Boa Vista, according to all the staff and Thomson Rep's. This is an annual occurrence after the rainy season in August. Again, confirmed by the staff, rep's and hotel manager. Although, he seems to think it's OK, because it was only a mild case last year. On one day of our stay, 23 or more guests had come down with Gastroenteritis, resulting in a 4 hour wait to see the doctor. On that note, if you need to see the doctor, be prepared to pay €60 for a visit, and €80 for a call out to your room. That is BEFORE any treatment, and the bill has to be paid upfront, and claimed back from your insurance. Research your visit before you go, there is nothing around the hotel, with a €30 each way taxi ride to the town. There are shops on the complex, with extortionate prices. The complex would benefit from a chemist, as the nearest one is a taxi ride away in the town. There was a plague of grasshoppers 24 hours a day. Stray cats everywhere, especially in the snack bar. They was eating scraps of food on the tables. Waiters, moving it off the table and wiping the table with a dirty cloth. No spray cleaner used, and cleaned the next table with the same cloth. Infestation of flies, especially noticeable the second week of our stay, probably with the sewers used so much due to the Gastroenteritis. More
Lovely hotel both myself and husband had sickness bug whilst there. Staff in restuarants, bars and reception lovely. This is our second visit to this hotel but the staff with access to rooms are let down by their colleagues with a liking for tourists belongings and think it okay to help themselves to them as both holidays have had items stolen. Reported this to both management and Thompson Reps was told email would be sent but guess what no record when home and contacted Thompson so make sure if you report anything they give you a copy. These incidents have spoilt what was a lovely holiday. Hotel pools and rooms desperately in need of renovating.More
Not my cup of tea
11 nights at the Rui Toureg Flights- extremely cramped for length of flight but understand the airport can only manage smaller planes. Hotel is ok staff were nice. Food repetitive. Drink local brands. Nowhere to get away from the heat apart from your room. Both my husband and myself had bad stomachs, I had anticipated this and took medication but very careful on what we ate even booking the other restaurants to try and go for less mass produced foods. I had emailed requesting block 9 which I got. One day I used a towel and when it got near my face it smelt rotten, so swapped to our beach towel. Woke the next day with blisters all over my face. Attended hospital and was given antibiotics oral and topical. Since being home have been prescribed antiviral topical and oral with a diagnosis of impetigo. The place itself is ok, we should have just gone for a week. It wasn't for me and I won't go back, i don't think. If you are going take high factor creams as it's 30euros a bottle. Crisps chocolate biscuits and extortionate. Stock up on medication from savers or B&m will save you loads.More
Tips for the Touareg
Not the newest or the poshest hotel I've stayed in but v clean, excellent service from professional v smart staff, lots of character in the beautiful grounds. Rooms lovely , and clean with lots of African character but friends etc sharing should be aware there is little privacy when using the shower. food very good but again not the best I've had in all inclusive but considering the area you are in the food is fine with plenty choice. Bear in mind that the specialty restaurants are buffet also but smaller and a nice change of venue and we had no problems booking these. We stayed in adult area which is normally v peaceful and relaxed around the adult pool however it can be noisier after the hotel provided champagne party. A few holidaymakers overindulge in the champagne and unfortunately there are no hotel staff monitoring the situation. boavista is a developing country and now is the time to visit before it becomes "over touristy" Dont go to this island if you are looking for shopping and night life !
