The ultimate guide to Malta’s music festivals

Get the inside scoop on Malta's music festivals.
As British nightlife takes a downward spiral – nearly half of UK clubs have shut their doors in the last 10 years – music festivals are ever on the up. That’s not just the case on home turf, either. All around the world, new, exciting music festivals are popping up. Malta is one place in particular that really knows what it’s doing. This island in the middle of the Mediterranean now plays host to Lost & Found Festival and Isle of MTV Festival, to name just two. We’ve done some digging to bring you the ultimate guide to each of these top summer events.

LOST & FOUND FESTIVAL

Lost & Found Festival has taken Malta by storm since it arrived on the island in 2015. It’s the brainchild of top DJ and producer Annie Mac and lines up four days of partying. Lost & Found’s bagged its own festival site, which is tucked away in an exclusive corner of the island. It comes with a trio of stages, a nightclub and a hatful of ‘secret areas’ for you to try and sneak your way into. As well as this, the festival also breaks off into mini-fests across Malta. This means that, once the big opening party has kicked off the event in style, you can dance the night – or day – away at castle raves, boat parties and pool parties. So, who can you expect to see headlining? Along with Annie Mac, the biggest names in Lost and Found’s history of line-ups include the likes of Armand Van Helden, Jamie Jones, and J.E.S.U.S, which is a collab between Jackmaster, Eats Everything, Seth Troxler and Skream. B Traits, Waze & Odyssey and Redlight are also among the artists that have played at the festival. Lost and Found takes place at the beginning of May each year – keep an eye out for tickets on their website.

Where to stay:

ISLE OF MTV FESTIVAL

Unlike Lost & Found, which is in a tucked-away, secret location, the Isle of MTV Festival is right in the thick of things in a square in Floriana. A huge stage is set up at one end of Il-Fosos Square next to the Church of St Publius, which is just stumbling distance from the city’s hub of pubs, cocktail bars and music venues. The artists performing are always iconic – in the past, Jess Glynne, Wiz Khalifa and Martin Garrix have taken to the stage – so you can be sure future line-ups will follow suit. It’s just a one-night thing, but there’s a week’s worth of parties leading up to the main event. We’re talking al fresco club nights headlined by chart-topping DJs and sunset cocktails on the beach.

Where to stay:
Bed down at The Phoenicia Malta and you’ll be less than five minutes’ walk from where the Isle of MTV Festival is held. The hotel itself is a fancy affair, with a swanky restaurant and a harbour-view pool.
