1. A beachfront spot
Sensira Resort & Spa Riviera Maya is on the beach in Puerto Morelos, so you’ve got a prime slice of Mexico’s Caribbean Coast right on the doorstep. Not only that, but the atmosphere here it as laidback as it gets, so you can enjoy your beachfront spot in peace. When you want to dial up the energy, El Tinto Golf Course and Ventura Park are around 20 minutes away by taxi, and you can get to buzzy Cancun in 30.
2. A huge dining scene
Food, glorious food is very much on the agenda here, with five restaurants to choose from. Work your way around an international buffet plus four speciality restaurants serving up fancy French fare, Italian favourites, Mexican bites and seriously good steaks. Add three snack bars and six places to grab a drink – including a beachfront bar – and you’ve got no less than 14 places to pick from. Keep an eye out for the mechanical bull in the Rodeo Grill – one to try before dinner, not after.
3. Plenty of pools
The infinity pool is the star of the show when it comes to swimming here – it faces the ocean and the views are something else. There’s also an adults-only number with massage jets, and an aqua park for little swimmers at the other end of the age range. This one’s kitted out with slides and fountains and it’s perfect for 4 to 12-year-olds.
4. A long line-up of activities
This place really goes to town when it comes to things to do, with something on offer for the whole family. In the daytime, for example, you can have a go at tennis or rock climbing, or let the little ones loose in the kids’ club while you finish that book by the pool. There’s even a teens’ club with things like VR games and air hockey, and you can pay a bit extra to use the spa if you fancy splashing out. At night you can make the most of a cinema and theatre as well as an adults-only nightclub, or just sip a cocktail or two at the lobby bar – there’s a drinks menu for kids, too.
5. Seriously stylish rooms
When it comes to rooms, all the essentials are covered here – so you can bank on things like free Wi-Fi, a 43″ flat screen TV and a terrace to sit out on, whichever room type you choose. The two-person oceanfront suites are ideal if you want to splash out on an incredible view. For families, the larger doubles are our top pick – they sleep up to five people, with a bunk bed for little ones.
