And it doesn’t need to be Valentine’s Day to get loved-up – there are romantic opportunities at any time of the year in these cities. PARIS
There’s a reason France’s capital is known as the city of love. Duck through secret alcoves to meander down streets filled with tiny boutiques, secure a lock with both of your names on it to the Pont des Arts Bridge, and watch the sunset while eating dinner at the Eiffel Tower. And that’s only the tip of the iceberg in Paris – there are thousands of ways to make the most of this beautiful city.
NEW YORK CITY
It’s where Harry met Sally, where Ross and Rachel defined what it meant to be ‘on-again-off-again’, and where Sex and the City’s Carrie and co. spent their 30s sharing their dating dramas. New York has had its fair share of love stories, and yours can be one of them. Take in the sights of the city from Brooklyn Bridge, then picnic at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Or, spend an afternoon wandering hand-in-hand through one of the many museums in the city, like the Museum of Modern Art. And your romantic weekend wouldn’t be complete without heading to the top of the Empire State Building to gaze at the city lights with a glass of champers.
REYKJAVIK
Make the most of Reykjavik’s chilly side and cuddle up to your other half as you explore Iceland’s stunning natural beauty. Take pictures together in front of the roaring Gullfoss Waterfall, before spending your evening chasing the Northern Lights together. You won’t soon forget this famous natural light show, so why not see it with someone you love? Then, sink into the warm waters of the world’s most famous geothermal pool, the Blue Lagoon, Iceland’s ultimate romantic hotspot. Visit at dusk to watch the sky put on a show of colour as the evening closes in. The pair of you can relax under the stars, keeping warm as steam rolls off the surface of the water.
ROME
As Dean Martin croons in his famous song, an evening in Rome is when it all begins. This city was made for lovers – take in the golden hues of the Trevi fountain lit up after dark, sit together on the Spanish steps watching the locals, and indulge in a glass of wine over a candlelit dinner. There’s something undeniably romantic about strolling together along the cobbled streets in the warm weather, or watching the world go by from your apartment balcony. Rome easily earns the title of one of the most romantic cities in the world – check out the bridge that’s considered one of the best places in the city to share a kiss with your lover, the Ponte Sant’Angelo, otherwise known as the Bridge of Angels.
LAS VEGAS
If you and your other half are ready to tie the knot but want to avoid a big ceremony, why not head to the Little White Chapel? Vegas may not be the first place that comes to mind when you’re planning a loved-up break, but making your vows is about as romantic it gets. If you’re not quite there yet as a couple, there’s still plenty to keep you and your partner busy. Check out the Bellagio Fountains creating an unforgettable water and light show after dark, and make time to visit the Grand Canyon - did you know it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site? After it’s wowed you, you might just be tempted to agree to see all of the UNESCO sites across the world together…
