Couples Tower Isle, Jamaica

At the Couples Tower Isle hotel in Ocho Rios, you can hop on a boat and be whisked off to a palm-studded private island just 100 metres offshore. It’s exclusive to hotel guests and features a naturist swimming pool.

That’s not all this adults-only hotel has to offer, though. There’s a quartet of private pools, a private stretch of white sand, and a programme of activities that are included in your stay. We’re talking glass-bottom boat rides, coral reef snorkelling, and a shuttle to take you to Ocho Rios’ shops. You can even try your hand at scuba diving with a free course for beginners.

TUI BLUE Kalamota Island, Croatia

TUI BLUE Kalamota Island takes peace and quiet to a new level. It’s the only hotel on a pint-sized, traffic-free island. That’s not to say it’s isolated, though. Board the hotel’s own shuttle boat and you’ll be in terracotta-toned Dubrovnik within 25 minutes.

This hillside property is reserved for adults, and the line-up of activities is tailored to its audience. You can sign up for mixology classes, fitness sessions, and culinary courses – and that’s just the start. Food-wise, you’ve got a duo of à la carte restaurants, and a buffet spot that boasts floor-to-ceiling windows.

TUI BLUE Olhuveli Romance, the Maldives

The adults-only TUI BLUE Olhuveli Romance is on a string of private islands in the Maldives, and this place takes its paradise island status seriously. The reception, bars and buffet restaurant are all open-air sandy spaces, for example. And all the villas here come with their own private pool and a terrace with sunbeds.

Food is another big feature here, from the island’s buffet spot to the à la carte restaurant, The Culinarium. This one is balanced on stilts above the shallow reef, and you get one splash-out dinner here included as part of your All Inclusive stay.

Catalonia Montego Bay, Jamaica

The beachfront Catalonia Montego Bay comes with a private island just a few steps from the shore – you can see it from the pool and paddle out to it when you fancy a change of scenery. If you want to explore a bit further afield, you can pay extra to set off on dives from the PADI-approved scuba diving school, and there are several sites close by.

Food-wise there are six restaurants dishing up everything from Caribbean to Japanese fare, as well as a snack bar serving light bites. Plus, this is the only property on our shortlist that’s not adults-only – with things like a special kids’ corner in the buffet that’s great for little ones – so the kids can enjoy their very own island escape, too.

Villa Nautica Paradise Island, the Maldives

Villa Nautica Paradise Island comes with all the tropical trademarks. It’s on a private island in the North Male atoll, circled by white sands and a calm lagoon. Plus, you can snorkel with sharks, rays and fish on the house reef.

When it comes to rooms, you can pick from beachfront, over water and oceanfront villas. And on top of all that there are five restaurants, tennis courts, a watersports centre and a spa with al fresco treatment rooms on the island, too.
