Turunc holidays land you in a sleepy fishing village in Turkey’s Dalaman area, a laidback coastal hideout with a Blue Flag beach, a mountain backdrop and a horseshoe shaped bay wrapped in pine scented forests – all just a four-hour flight from the UK.
Turunc is a former fishing village on the Mediterranean coast, and it really sits off the tourist track. It’s only a 30‑minute drive from lively Marmaris, but tucked beneath the Taurus Mountains it comes with that extra‑secluded feel – with a Blue Flag beach to top it off. The village is over 100 years old, and its name even translates to ‘bitter orange’, thanks to the citrus trees that once covered the area. Totally walkable (you can cross it in around half an hour), Turunc is the quiet, go‑slow alternative to the nearby resorts that tend to dial things up a notch.
If you’re here for the sea, Turunc doesn’t disappoint. The village hugs a horseshoe‑shaped bay where the Med stays calm, clear and very photo‑friendly, with little boats bobbing along a pretty seafront walkway. Transfers from Dalaman Airport take around two to two-and-a-half hours – or you can make a standout entrance by water taxi from Marmaris marina. Trust us, gliding into Turunc by sea is a proper ‘wow’ moment.
Mondays start with the cheerful buzz of the local market, and the village is sprinkled with small independent shops if you’re hunting for unique finds. Down by the tiny quay, boats head to hidden coves or across to the ancient city of Amos, where Greek‑era ruins overlook the sea. Longer cruises go to Turtle Beach (iztuzu), where you might spot a loggerhead turtle. Whether you’re walking the promenade, hiking a coastal trail or lingering over mezze by the harbour, Turunc runs entirely at your pace.
