Torba holidays
Jump to sections
Holidays to Torba put you in prime position to sample the Bodrum peninsula's ancient ruins and buzzy nightlife.
Laidback location
Torba’s tucked into a sheltered bay at the neck of the Bodrum peninsula. It’s 15 minutes’ drive from hyperactive Bodrum, but it shares none of its neighbour’s 24-hour party tendencies. Instead, Torba is a handful of whitewashed houses, seafood restaurants and hotels clustered around a Blue Flag beach.
Beach time
Torba’s beach is a mix of sand and shingle. Part of the stretch is shoulder to shoulder with the local contingent of hotels, but there’s still more than enough public space for sunbathing. Wooden jetties poke out into the calm water, creating more room for tanning. And there are plenty of waterfront restaurants waiting in the wings when you’re ready for a bite.
Daytripping territory
Ranging up the coast north of Torba, you’ve got some heavyweight historical sites. There’s the ancient city of Miletus, the Roman amphitheatre at Priene, and the crumbling columns and giant stone Medusa head at Didyma – an hour away by ferry, or two hours by car. Closer by, in Bodrum, there’s a heavily-turreted Ottoman castle, which doubles as a museum of underwater archaeology. You’ve also got a glut of marina-side boutiques and boisterous bars.
