If you visit Basel during the winter months, your Christmas market visits will come with chilly temps – during the day, it tends to be anywhere between 3°C and 6°C, and it can drop below zero at night. Summers are on the warmer side, particularly in July and August, when you can expect temperatures to reach the high twenties.

You should take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance to cover you while you’re away. Also, if you’re travelling to Switzerland and you apply for a card now, you'll get a new UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) instead of an EHIC. This entitles you to emergency medical treatment on the same terms as Swiss nationals. It won’t, however, cover you for medical repatriation, ongoing medical treatment or non-urgent treatment.
