Alicante holidays

Alicante, Costa Blanca

Holidays to Alicante are beach breaks with a difference – you’ve got historic castles, sprawling parks and a handful of museums to nosey around.

Easy-to-reach beaches

With a central spot along Spain’s famous Costa Blanca, it’s no surprise that Alicante impresses on the beach front. One of the most popular is the family-friendly Playa del Postiguet Beach – its wide stretch of biscuit-coloured sand slopes gently into the sea. It’s right by the city centre, so it couldn’t be easier to get to, and there’s a marble-paved esplanade and a restaurant-and-bar-studded marina on its doorstep.

Castles and culture

Alicante’s architecture ranges from Medieval to Modernist, and one of its most recognisable buildings is Santa Barbara Castle. It’s been around since the 9th century, and one of its main draws is its views, thanks to its hilltop position overlooking the city and sea. There’s plenty for history buffs to get stuck into here, too – the city’s home to intriguing spots like the Archaeology Museum and Bullfighting Museum.

Picturesque parks

For a change of scenery, head to one of Alicante’s parks for a stroll. Parque de la Ereta is a top choice if you’re looking for the best views of the city – its winding hillside paths lead up to the base of Santa Barbara Castle. Meanwhile, on the other side of town, the peaceful Parque el Palmeral is packed full of palm trees, pretty wooden bridges and water features.
