Holidays to Deia take you to Majorca's most beautiful village. No wonder so many artists, writers and rock stars have chosen to call this corner of Spain home.
Majorca’s famous face
Beautiful Deia on Majorca’s north-west coast is one of the island’s most famous villages. It’s got real star wattage – Richard Branson and Mick Jagger have lived here, clearly seduced by the orange and olive groves, and its lovely location between the mountains and the sea. But it retains a low-key vibe – this is a real, working village where you’ll find local tapas bars next to the five-star hotels.
A paradise beach
It’s a five-minute drive to Cala Deia. It might be small and shingly, but the clear waters and surrounding greenery make for a very pretty spot. Trees and cliffs shelter the bay, giving you the feeling that you’ve stumbled across some secret cove. But it’s not so tucked away that there’s no beach scene – you’ve got a couple of lively restaurants on the shingle.
Daytrips to Palma
It’s a 45 minutes' drive to the island’s sophisticated capital, Palma. Here you can wander around the old town, Barri Gòtic – a labyrinth of narrow, cobbled streets and atmospheric tapas bars and boutiques. Also in these parts, you’ve got La Seu Cathedral, a skyline-dominating affair that took some 300 years to build.
