Our last minute holidays to La Gomera whisk you away to a volcanic Canary Island just off the coast of Tenerife.
Island capital San Sebastian
The ferry from Tenerife docks in San Sebastian, so this peaceful place will be your first port of call when you arrive in La Gomera. It’s also the historic centre of the island — expect elegant churches, ocean-view fortresses and a museum dedicated to one-time visitor Christopher Columbus.
Smart fishing harbours
Playa de Santiago is within throwing distance of San Sebastian. A palm-spotted promenade and sand-and-shingle beaches lace the coast here, closely followed by hotels and restaurants with wide-angle views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Into the mountains
Lots of travellers make a beeline straight for Valle Gran Rey. It’s less a town and more a collection of villages scattered over a landscape of black-sand volcanic beaches and jewel-green hills. A mountainous national park is in this neck of the woods, too — and it’s a UNESCO favourite.
