Holidays to El Salobre deliver a tucked-away countryside spot, where peace and quiet is the order of the day. Top-drawer golf courses cap things off.
El Salobre's a specialist in chilled days and fairways. There are a couple of 18-hole courses that have been designed to fit around Gran Canaria’s terraced valleys and volcanic slopes. Away from the greens, you’re well-placed to sample some of the Canary Island’s best beaches, plus resorts that tick all the right boxes for families.
The valley setting between sea and mountain gives this place the edge when it comes to seclusion. And the views are good enough to bowl you over, and the sunset's one of the most photographed on the island. Look around, and you'll see mile after mile of greenery, only broken by a sparse scattering of villas and hotels.
El Salobre's in the business of recharging batteries, but it’s within easy reach of a few lively neighbours. A 10-minute drive east gets you to Maspalomas, which is famed for its huge dunes. Head 15 minutes by car the other way, to Puerto Rico, and you'll find a lively beach and a family-friendly line-up of watersports, shops, and sea-view bars. Soft sands and calm waters keep cropping up as you follow the coast around.
Other than golf, there’s plenty to do close by. A 10-minute drive gets you to a go-karting track and Aqualand Maspalomas, which has high-speed slides, a surf beach, a lazy river and dedicated areas for little ones. There's also a horse riding ranch on the doorstep which offers treks through the countryside.
