View All DealsHolidays to Jandia serve up cosmopolitan nightlife, a quaint old town, and a beach where you can stretch out on the sand or road test a range of watersports.
On the southwest peninsula of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, Jandia is the place for the more demanding beach lover. It’s set on a never-ending expanse of white sand, at the foot of the Pico de la Zarza mountain range. Over the years, as it’s grown, the town has merged with neighbouring Morro Jable, where the harbour and quaint old town provide a counterpoint to Jandia’s modern hotels, restaurants and nightspots.
Jandia’s beach doesn’t do things by halves. It snakes along the coast for 32 kilometres, passing dunes, lagoons and a winding promenade along the way. Thanks to a gentle breeze that washes over the water, windsurfing and kite-surfing are popular pastimes here. But those looking for laid-back beach life are in luck, too because there are plenty of quieter spots.
Morro Jable is the name of the old fishing village here that has gently yielded to the pull of tourism. Around the harbour you’ll find some of the best fish restaurants that Fuerteventura has to offer, so you can eat al fresco and watch the windsurfers whip along the sea. If you take a catamaran cruise from here, there’s a good chance of glimpsing the dolphins out at sea.
Most of Fuerteventura’s south-east peninsula forms part of a national park – the Parque National de Jandia. The whole area is rich in rare flora and fauna, and sightings of Egyptian vultures and kestrels aren’t uncommon. For unbeatable views, you can climb the slopes of Pico de la Zarza.
