Sandwiched between the beach and the atmospheric old quarter, Hotel Balcon de Europa boasts one of the best locations in Nerja.
Named after Nerja’s famous Balcon de Europa viewpoint, which sits just to the left of the hotel, this property has one of the best locations in town.
The hotel is built onto the cliff face, and has a bit of a topsy-turvy layout. The reception and pool are up on the fifth floor, at street level, while the beach and main restaurant are down on the bottom level.

Best Place to stay in Nerja
The location of this hotel couldn't be better. It is in the middle of Nerva but retains it's privacy as guests have to swipe a card to get to the guests section of the hotel. The breakfast has a great variety with something to suit everyone, the made to order omelettes ate delicious! The room with sea view, though expensive is breathtaking. The only problem I experienced was that some guests took claim to lounges early in the morning even though they weren't there- only their towels! A bit selfish to say the least, as other people are left without and have to wait for one to be vacated. Overall I would recommend this hotel and the staff were very helpful.More
Great location, perhaps better for couples rather than families....
My husband, two children (6 years and 18 months) stayed at the Balcon Hotel Europa last week. Our overall experience was okay. Here is what we thought was good: Breakfast is great and there is a wide selection of foods that cater for all. Staff are efficient, friendly and they work very hard. The location of the hotel as the name suggests is on the Balcon de Europa. You are in the heart of the action. For some who prefer a quieter environs it might be too much, but we loved being in the center of town. It very easy to walk to shops restaurants and the children loved playing on the Balcon. Even though you are in the town center, the rooms are quiet. Make sure you get one facing the sea, the waves cancel out any background noise from the town. The views from the pool are are spectacular. Here is what we thought could be improved: The hotel decor is very dated. Think artificial flowers, heavy furniture and dark carpets. There appear to be a lot of rules. We found it odd that the beach cafe / restaurant shut promptly at 5pm. We saw people being turned away at 4.57pm. The cafe has a beautiful terrace with a great view. It was a shame not to be able to sit with a glass of wine and enjoy the late afternoon sun. The beach at the hotel is tiny. If you want to be by the water, you have to reserve a sun lounger early (but only from 9.00am onwards) On a particularly windy day, the waves came up over the sun-lounger I was reading on! I now know why that sun-lounger was free. The pool is minuscule and freezing. Definitely not great for children. The hotel markets itself as being family friendly, but most guests are over 65 and they are not necessarily fond of children - even well behaved ones! If you choose to walk to Burriana beach from the hotel, it is an up and downhill hike - a bit strenuous with a stroller and in the heat. I wouldn’t want to do the same walk in July. It takes about 30 minutes. The views on the walk however are great. Our room was minuscule, even though it was a junior suite. There were no flannels / wash cloths in the bathroom. There were only two elevators (one was the service elevator) in our section of the hotel. At busy times in the morning and evening, one would have to wait a long time for the lift. If you stay at the hotel you have to park in the underground car park fives minutes walk away. Walking is not an issue if you don’t have luggage, it definitely becomes an issue when you do. We called ahead to the hotel to ask for help with our bags, but were told the bell boy was helping other customers. In the end, we decided to ‘go it alone’, ended up parking in the wrong spot, had to argue with the garage attendant and sweated buckets to move our luggage. It was stressful. The hotel should do a better job of communicating with guests about their arrival times, giving directions to park and making the whole check in process easier. The processes and communication at the hotel are outdated - lots and lots of paper. Overall we wouldn’t go back to .... Nerja itself is very touristy, so if you are looking for ‘real’ Spain this town is not your best bet. The views however, selection of restaurants and great weather definitely create an appeal.More
Stunning views over Nerja
The hotel has the most amazing views as you walk out of the hotel, it is breathtaking. It is on the side of the one of the biggest balconies in Europe which was built by King Alfonso. This hotel is right in the middle of the action, with a lot going on around the Balcon. If you like busy this is for you, if you like it a little quieter go for a sea view. We had a room with a seaview, it was beautiful. We were lucky when we were there as we had a fantastic view from our balcony of the amazing fireworks display from the Balcon and various singers and musicians. The atmosphere is amazing. The hotel is bright and airy and the staff are all very friendly. Our room was perfect with an inside door between the bedroom and the bathroom, which kept the room quiet. Everything was kept spotless by the lovely cleaner, and the sheets were of very good quality and were changed quite a few times during our stay. The Bathroom was well stocked with plenty of toiletries. The Restaurant has a fantastic view out to sea and stocked with a good variety of food with excellent quality. We even had a barbecue on the beach, which was special, apparently, they have one a week. The hotel is situated at the entrance of the old town where you will find plenty of bars and restaurants and narrow streets with lots and lots of shops. The atmosphere here is a happy one and looks even better in the night with all the lights on and people out and about enjoying themselves in one of the many restaurants and bars. The only two thing that let it down was the gypsies and beggars that sit around begging, wish the police would move them on. As long as you ignore them completely and pretend they are not there, you will be fine. However, I must mention the transfers back to the airport was horrendous. We waited in the foyer for our transfers, and was walked to the car park where we were told to wait one minute, we were left there and then picked up in the hotel transfer bus and took to the Nerja Club hotel in the hills, we were dropped us off and was told a bus would be along in 20 mins. The bus then picked us up and drove back down to the coast to the Monicor Hotel which was only a short walk from our hotel. it took us two hours from being walked to the car park and reaching the airport. This has put us off going to that area in the future. This was not our first time to Nerja and will not be the last, however, we will not go back to that area for the reason of the transport.More

Stayed at the balcon for 2 weeks, we had a sea view room with great views. The room was kept spotless as was the whole hotel. We found the staff very friendly , helpful & hard working throughout the hotel. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice, we enjoyed the buffet meals on the evenings but ate out some nights as there plenty of good restaurants in the area. I enjoyed watching the crowds & entertainers on the balcon , while sitting in the outside bar, the hotel is in the perfect position, so close to bars & restaurants shops etc it was perfect for us .🙂More
Great location, but expensive and can be noisy
Located in the most beautiful area in Nerja, this hotel view won't let you down. It's amazing private beach and views are stunning. However, the hotel isn't cheap, especially in pick season. We got the non-view room and unfortunately needed to change the room twice due to extream noise eventhough the reception guy promised that the rooms were quite.. In the first room the bed was located just near the door so we could hear everyone that was passing by. We decided to ask for another room. It was better organized but in the evening we realized that we were located directly under the reception and the noise was extreamly loud. luckly for us, there was another room available which was much better!! Overall, our experience was good since we didn't mind moving again. but if you want avoiding cases like this, you should check the room carefully before checking in ..More
