A costa with culture

Malaga is the cultural capital of the Costa del Sol. As well as a long, sandy shoreline, this vibrant city comes with cathedrals, castles and an up-and-coming arts scene. Every week, a new boutique or gourmet eatery opens on the waterfront, an area which recently had a top-to-toe makeover.

City sights

A flower and fountain-filled garden marks Malaga’s centre. From here, it’s just a couple of minutes’ walk to the historic quarter, where you’ll find sights like a 16^th-century, dome-topped cathedral, a Roman amphitheatre and the Moorish Alcazaba Palace. You can map them all out from the hilltop Gibralfaro Castle, which offers up 360-degree views across the city.

An artistic side

As the birthplace of Picasso, Malaga has long been linked to the arts – an impressive collection of the painter’s lesser-known works is housed in a museum dedicated to him. More recently, a mini version of Paris’ Pompidou Centre has popped up by the harbour, with exhibits by modern greats like Kahlo and Magritte.
