Beaches

Artificial lakes

Kranjska Gora doesn't have any bathing lakes nearby, but if you take a short walk out of town, you'll come across Lake Jasna - two interconnected, artificial lakes at the confluence of the Velika Pišnica and Mala Pišnica streams.

Lake Jasna beaches

The lake itself is pretty small, but it's surrounded with small stretches of sandy beaches that are perfect for relaxing and sunbathing.

Splish, splash, splosh

You can also swim in this clear, blue lake. There are lots of small piers to jump off of, plus a wooden tower at one end of the lake that's great for getting a good view.

Food & drink

Eating out

Kranjska Gora is relatively small and its restaurants are spread out, so you can incorporate them into your walks through the pretty, traditional town. A local speciality is buckwheat fritters with cottage cheese, and you must try kremšnita, Bled’s famous cream cake.

Inventive Italian fare at the Restaurant Lipa

On the edge of town is the Restaurant Lipa, serving up inventive and creative dishes that take inspiration from traditional Italian and European cuisines. To boast their culinary diversity, they have over 20 different stonebaked pizzas on the menu, as well as an impressive dessert platter.

Afternoon tea at Slascicarna Kala

Further down the road is the famous Slascicarna Kala, a small cake shop selling large slices of cake, pie and strudel alongside proper English tea. The cheap eats make it a great stop after a day exploring the area, and they usually offer complimentary blueberry liqueur with most purchases.

Opulent occasions at the Skipass Hotel Restaurant

Ideal for a celebration or romantic meal is the Skipass Hotel Restaurant. It's more expensive than most other restaurants in town but it's an excellent fine dining option. The restaurant itself is large and sophisticated, and the chefs personally bring you your food – every dish is like a work of art.

If you want to stay close to town, you can stroll to Lake Jasna to see the mythical Zlatorog statue, or simply wander through the nearby forests and meadows. For something a bit different, the Zelenci Nature Reserve is home to many unusual animals and plants, and is a lovely place to spend the day. More demanding walks will take you up to the Vršič Pass, across the border to Italy or Austria, or nearby peaks.

To Lake Jasna

This easygoing walk is a good one for your first day in Kranjska Gora. Head south out of town and follow the trail through the trees. The bridge over the River Pisnica is a picturesque place to stop for photos and, from there, it’s less that 200m to Lake Jasna.
