Praia da Gale holidays
Jump to sections
Praia da Gale holidays are all about the sand. The huge beach here's the hotspot, and it's lined with plenty of rustic restaurants.
Praia da Gale Beach
You’ll find this three-mile sweep of sand along Portugal’s southern coast. It’s got an out-of-the-way feel to it, thanks to the line of sandstone cliffs that keep it tucked out of view. Water-wise, it’s the best of both worlds, too. Some days, it’s as flat as a millpond, making it perfect for paddling. The rest of the time, there’s a good-sized surf that’s ideal for watersports.
Par for the course
The chilled-out atmosphere continues inland. The village has gone down the peaceful route, focusing on its fine 18-hole golf course, with its lavish clubhouse. The rest of the dining scene’s made up by a selection of both modern and traditional restaurants that are sprinkled around.
Albufeira and Armacao de Pera
Praia da Gale’s nestled in between one of the biggest cities in the region – Albufeira – and Armacao de Pera – a bustling seaside village with stunning natural scenery. Daytrips to the former revolve around the café-covered cobbled streets of the old town. Or, you can head here by might to make the most of the clubs and cocktail bars. In Armacao de Pera, tours to the Benagil Caves, which look like Mother Nature’s attempt at the Roman Pantheon, are the main attraction.
