There are a couple of nearby towns to explore, too, which boast traditional restaurants and beautiful architecture.

Close to Lecce

A 20-minute drive lands you in Lecce – Puglia’s so-called Baroque capital. One of the most famous landmarks here's the Basilica di Santa Croce – a church which rose to fame in the 17th century. It’s a good-looking building, with a string of of cafés, restaurants and shops gathered nearby.

Acaya Castle

To the north, you’ve got the village of Acaya. It’s full to the brim with history, which is where its nickname – the Fortified City – comes from. The main draw's a UNESCO-protected castle, which was built in the 16th century. It’s easy on the eye, with two large towers, a drawbridge and a small moat that have survived the test of time.
