Holidays to Seiano serve up traditional architecture, a sandy beach and some of the area's best views of Mount Vesuvius.
Seiano’s perched on a hillside overlooking the Bay of Naples, which puts the panoramas up there with the best in the region. Hotels and villas jostle for position on the steep, tree-smothered slopes, with Mount Vesuvius filling the frame as you look out. It’s more traditional than touristy, so you’ll get a proper feel for how the locals live in these parts.
This place bucks the trend when it comes to beach days. The Sorrentine Peninsula’s more sheer than sandy, which makes classic sunbathing spots hard to come by. But Marina d’Aequa, down below Seiano, has a pretty pocket of sand-and-pebble beach that flies below the radar. A few pizzerias and a quaint harbour sit alongside the waterfront, and the tucked-away setting makes for peaceful tanning sessions.
Campania and sightseeing are a well-established double-act, and there are enough attractions around here to fill a couple of holidays. The ancient ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum rank among the most popular, and you can visit the cloud-piercing peak of Mount Vesuvius. Turn away from the Bay of Naples, and you’ve got the Crayola-coloured houses of the Amalfi Coast in the other direction. All of them are within an hour’s drive of Seiano, too.
