Vlychada holidays
Jump to sections
Holidays to Vlychada put you face-to-face with volcanic landscapes, a moon-like beach, and flavours rooted in the local land.
Southern coast slow-down
Vlychada sits on Santorini’s southern coast, marking a calm spot on the island’s map and offering a taste of authentic village life. With quiet beaches and a charming marina, this isn’t your typical party-packed Greek hotspot or tourist trap. Here, locals greet each other with a friendly “Kalimera” – or good morning – and a handful of tavernas serve up quality seafood, Greek classics, and volcanic views.
A lunar coastline
Vlychada’s main beach is a long ribbon of black sand and pebbles, backed by white cliffs with turquoise waters that live up to every Greek island expectation. Over the years, wind and water have carved the cliffs into fluted pillars, caves and hollows – giving them a moon-like look, and providing a reminder of Santorini’s fiery geological history.
Marina mooching
Vlychada’s marina stretches in a gentle crescent along the southern coast, lined with fishing boats, sleek yachts, and excursion cruises. It’s the perfect starting point for trips to nearby volcanic isles and beaches, all framed by dramatic cliffs. From the marina, you can also walk straight onto the main beach, plus the Santorini Arts Factory is just a short stroll away.
Volcanic flavours
The food here is grown out of Santorini’s volcanic soil. Try the island’s famous cherry-sized tomatoes – they're naturally sweet from the mineral-rich soil – alongside local cheeses like Graviera and Anthotyro, fava beans, and capers. Vlychada is also known for its fresh seafood straight off the boat – best enjoyed with a glass of Assyrtiko wine, whose crisp acidity and mineral notes complement the local catch.
