Kanapitsa holidays
Jump to sections
Holidays to Kanapitsa take you to a quaint rural village that still fits in village shops and authentic tavernas – and for nightlife and culture, Skiathos Town is just down the road.
An elegant hideaway
Kanapitsa is a peaceful village along the south coast of Skiathos, a pretty speck of an island just off southern Greece. It’s a laid-back spot with a bit a bit of class – witness the beautiful rustic tavernas and the pine-carpeted hills that back the village. Everything seems to happen along the waterside, with both shops and restaurants offering views across the azure waters and the village’s 2 beaches.
A duo of beaches
Kanapitsa has not 1 but 2 Blue Flag beaches – they’re next-door neighbours who share everything, so the golden sand and crystalline waters stretch between them. Both have lots of sunloungers and umbrellas, too. The most secluded spots are a walk away – footpaths from the village mean it’s just a short walk to the isolated sandy coves of Koutsouri and Delfiniki. Or there’s the watersports at Tzaneria Beach, set in a pretty bay a 10-minute walk away.
Daytrips around the island
The capital Skiathos Town is 10 minutes’ drive away. There’s an old town with narrow winding streets to wander round, and a 13th-century Venetian citadel to admire. The island’s most famous author also has a museum dedicated to his work here – Alexandros Papadiamantis wrote mainly about Skiathos. A 5-minute drive out of the capital takes you to the 18th-century Evangelistria Monastery, where the monks sell their very own red wine.
