Petalidi holidays
Jump to sections
Holidays to Petalidi keep things peaceful with a pebble beach and traditional tavernas. But, you're not far from some postcard-ready natural sights and historical heavyweights.
Seaside village
This pint-sized place sits on Greece’s southern coast. It started out as a fishing village, and you’ll still see a few fishermen touting nets along the shore. But these days, it’s a family-friendly holiday spot first and foremost, with a crop of tavernas and hotels. Terracotta-roofed buildings gather around the main square, which is punctuated by palms and features the village’s seashell-white church in its centre.
Petalidi Beach
The beach nestles next to Petalidi’s harbour. It’s covered in big, smooth pebbles, which turn into sand as you go into the water. It’s a peaceful spot – you won’t find any busy beachfront bars or rows of loungers and parasols to rent. Instead, there’s a little café where you can sip a coffee, and the trees that line the shore provide the shade.
Hiking hotspot
Drive for 30 minutes and you’ll get to the Polylimnio Gorge hiking trail. Its name translates to ‘many lakes’, and that’s exactly what you’ll find – 15 of them, to be exact. They’re surrounded by waterfall-featuring rock faces – some of which spill from a height of 25 metres. After you’ve hiked the three-kilometre path, you’ll be ready to jump into the water for a swim.
