While it’s true that Malia has a reputation for party nights, it’s also got hotels that are ideal for family holidays.
Relaxed hotels
Family-friendly hotels like the Hotel Cretan Park perch on the outskirts of Malia. A themed buffet restaurant, big gardens and evening shows are the highlights here. Spend your nights at the Kernos Beach, meanwhile, and you’ll get a sand-side swimming pool and playground.
Sandy beaches and an old town
The five-kilometre-long beach is a real attention-grabber. Families tend to collect on Sun Beach, where there’s a children’s lido and plenty of sunloungers. Potamos Beach, meanwhile, is a hit with local families. One of the more well-kept secrets of Malia is the pint-sized old town. The labyrinthine streets star a Venetian church, bougainvillea-draped tavernas and car-free squares.
Travel Crete
Malia takes a seat in the middle of the northern coast of Crete, so you’re in a top spot for exploring one of the biggest islands in Greece. Families make a beeline for Watercity waterpark, where adrenalin-spiking slides knock shoulders with tot-friendly splash pools. The historic island capital of Heraklion is less than an hour’s drive away, too.
