Holidays to Aghios Georgios South are anchored by a six-kilometre stretch of golden sand on Corfu's south-west coast. This nature-focused resort sits near the protected Korission Lagoon, just over half an hour’s drive from the Venetian architecture of Corfu Town.
St George South – AKA Aghios Georgios – is a relaxed spot on Corfu’s southwest coast. Bars, cafés, shops and tavernas spread themselves out along the coastline, and there’s a fantastic 6-kilometre sandy beach to kick back on. Inland, you’ve got country walks to peaceful villages. And you can be at the capital, Corfu Town, in just over half an hour.
The beaches here –Aghios Georgios South has a duo to its name – are considered 2 of Corfu’s best. They’ve both earned Blue Flags, and the golden sands stretch on and on for 6 kilometres. You get sunloungers and a great selection of watersports. They’re both obviously very popular, but you can always wander to the quiet northern end to escape the crowds.
Venture out of Aghios Georgios South itself and you’ll find easy paths threading through the olive groves – perfect for easy strolls and a picnic lunch. To get a taste of traditional village life on your travels, you might want to head inland for about 3 kilometres to Argirades, which has some great cafés and sweeping views over the coastline.
Within striking distance you’ve got the Gardiki Fort, a Byzantine ruin about 8 kilometres away. Corfu Town, with its stunning orthodox cathedral, old fortress and museums, is about 35 minutes’ drive away. Here the highlights are the Esplanade, where cricket is still played today, and the Liston, an elegant and buzzy Italian-style colonnade.
