Ruka holidays
Jump to sections
Kilometre-long frozen lakes, acres of snow-topped trees, and first-class ski slopes with the nightlife to match are all staples of holidays to Ruka.
Skiing and sights
Ruka hugs Lapland’s southern border. This ski town’s first slope was opened back in 1954, and it now boasts a grand total of 29 runs. And the floodlit slopes mean that you don’t have to limit your skiing to daylight hours. There's also a huge slope where you can watch skiers turning some eye-popping tricks. Ruka has plenty more feathers in its cap, though. Its après-ski credentials are top-notch – you can take your pick of heated terraces and bars.
Snow joke
The town’s blanketed in snow for 200 days of the year, giving the whole place a fairytale feel. The landscape here’s picture-perfect. As well as the slopes, we’re talking pine forests that look like they’ve been dusted with icing sugar, and frosted-over lakes. If snowsports aren’t your forte, Ruka lines up plenty of snowy alternatives – you can hop on a husky-drawn sled or rocket around on a snowmobile.
Santa time
Ruka's close to Kuusamo, where you can meet Santa in his secret cottage. You'll join other families for a gathering with the man in red. He'll tell you all about his elves and reindeer, then read the group some stories. Because it's a group visit, you'll get more time with Snta here than at some of our other resorts.
Your itinerary
Our Lapland holidays feature action-packed itineraries which can vary from hotel to hotel – you can head to your hotel’s info page for a flavour of what to expect. It’s also worth noting that all itineraries are subject to minor changes, and you can find your final itinerary on the TUI Lapland App – available from the App Store and Google Play – two days before you go. When it comes to booking additional experiences, we’d recommend you book these with us – it’s just so we can make sure they fit in around your included activities.
