View All DealsHolidays to Slano are all about experiencing off-the-beaten-track Croatia, with beautiful scenery, quiet beaches and a scattering of authentic restaurants.
The pin-drop peaceful village of Slano is curved around a wide bay on Croatia’s Adriatic coast, 30 kilometres north of Dubrovnik. The village comes with a picturesque backdrop of green-cloaked hills. Walking and cycling trails snake their way across the landscape, passing through pine forests, fruit orchards and olive groves. Keep an eye out and you might spot remains of castle walls and centuries-old forts.
The village itself is quiet and traditional, with just a handful of restaurants, tavernas and shops. A necklace of beaches is strung across the bay, mixing sand with smooth pebbles. It’s a sheltered spot, so it’s ideal for watersports like kayaking and snorkelling. You can hire sail and motor boats to explore some of the offshore islands, too. As for sights, there’s a 14th-century Franciscan monastery with a collection of Roman sarcophagi, and the beautiful summer residence of the wealthy Ohmucevic family.
Local buses make the 45-minute journey to Dubrovnik from the centre of the village. The city’s crown jewel is its photogenic old town – its grand cathedrals, winding alleyways and terracotta-roofed townhouses are encircled by chunky Medieval walls.
