Five beautiful waterfalls around the world

Discover five beautiful waterfalls around the world.
We know travelling isn’t on the cards right now, but that doesn’t stop us dreaming…

When it comes to the world's most famous waterfalls, iconic Niagara and larger-than-life Victoria are probably the ones that first spring to mind. But you've also got lesser-known – but equally jaw-dropping – cascades like Tamarin Falls in Mauritius, Skradinski Buk in Croatia, and Gullfoss in Iceland. Wherever you choose to go, we reckon the sight of tonnes of water spilling over the edge of a cliff is bound to impress, so a visit to a waterfall is the perfect holiday memory maker. Here are some ideas to get the inspiration flowing – if you'll excuse the pun...

SKRADINSKI BUK, KRKA NATIONAL PARK, CROATIA

Krka National Park is one of Croatia’s most prized possessions thanks to its wealth of natural beauty. Think sparkling lakes, lush green forests, and riverside walks, to name just a few. It’s the plunging waterfalls that tourists come here for, though. The park’s crowning glory is Skradinski Buk. This huge natural pool has 17 cascading waterfalls bursting through the trees, and you’ll even get to swim in the fall’s lower lake while you’re there. We promise your Instagram followers will get serious FOMO…

GULLFOSS, ICELAND

Did you know Gullfoss is Iceland’s largest and most famous waterfall? It’s not hard to see why, either. This protected cascade translates as ‘golden waterfall’ in English, and you’ll find it nestled in the Golden Circle, near the famous Geysir. It drops a whopping 32 metres down into bright-blue waters, and is enveloped by snow covered landscapes (during winter) for miles, giving you some of the best views in Iceland. Want to know the best part? All of our holidays to Iceland include a day-long Golden Circle tour, and a Northern Lights trip. Tempted, yet?

THAN BOK KHORANI NATIONAL PARK, KRABI, THAILAND

Thailand is no stranger when it comes to beautiful waterfalls. Thanks to national parks, like Than Bok Khorani, you’ll have access to one of the most relaxing on earth. You’ll find this protected area around 45 minutes’ drive from the sun-kissed resort of Krabi, so it’s the perfect place to escape the crowds and get back to nature. Here, the 15-acre park is made up of numerous bright-green waterfalls and streams that you can dip in and out of. In fact, the nutrient-filled waters are so good that the locals wash their hair here, Herbal Essences style…

PHU QUOC NATIONAL PARK, PHU QUOC, VIETNAM

If you’re a nature lover, Phu Quoc’s National Park is the ideal choice for your next adventure. This Vietnamese gem takes up more than 90% of heart-shaped Phu Quoc Island, so it’s a must-visit while you’re there. One of the park’s most sought-after sights is Tranh stream and waterfall. It takes around 15 minutes’ taxi ride to get there from Dong Duong Town. Once you’ve followed the easy-walking Tranh trail, you’ll be led up to a forested area that’s home to plunging cascades, so it’s a really peaceful place to stop and cool down.

BLACK RIVER GORGES NATIONAL PARK, MAURITIUS

Fancy going on holiday to Mauritius? We don’t blame you. This place has much more than sand and sea up its sleeve. Take Black River Gorges National Park, for example, which is home to hiking trails, twisting rivers, and the breathtaking Tamarin Falls. Once you’ve finished taking in panoramic views from the top, you can go for a dip in the surrounding streams, or you can channel your inner adrenaline junkie and abseil down the canyon walls – the choice is up to you.
