Frequently Asked Questions

Where should I go for a city break in winter?

It depends what sort of adventure you’re after. For somewhere sunny, head to Florence, Madrid or Seville. Or dive right into the depths of winter in a city like Reykjavik in Iceland, where trendy cocktail bars rub shoulders with black-sand beaches. Alternatively, go long haul to firm city favourites, like New York, Dubai and Boston.

What’s the best city to visit in December?

If you fancy a city break at Christmas, we reckon Europe’s your best bet. The Christmas markets are as famous as they get, and you’ve got plenty of destinations to choose from. Prague, Krakow, Vienna and Frankfurt all flaunt fairy-light-littered stalls, ice rinks, wine bars and foodie trucks galore.

Our best Winter city breaks

City breaks in the winter are the perfect way to break up the year, and not feel like you’re waiting for that summer holiday season to roll around again. We’ve got city breaks to suit all budgets, whether you fancy a cheap getaway or an all-out trip that splashes the cash.

December city breaks are a popular choice, particularly in the run-up to Christmas, when you can dive in to some festive shopping. Our European city breaks are a real winner in this department – try elegant Vienna for size, or old-meets-new Frankfurt in Germany. Both have world-famous Christmas markets. Or, go further afield and make New York your winter go-to. The Big Apple’s got you covered on major league retail therapy, all-out dinners, and some of the most iconic landmarks in the world.

If you want a European winter city break with a sprinkle of sunshine, fly over to Seville. This Spanish city flaunts winter highs of 17°C, so you won’t need to pack too many jumpers. Florence, in Italy, is a great choice, too. The temperature hovers around the 11°C mark, but you’ll have the sun on your side as you explore eye-widening landmarks like the domed Duomo Cathedral and the Uffizi Gallery.
