Holidays to Cap Cana are all about the finer things in life. You've got some of the world's best beaches, luxurious five-star resorts, and top-notch dining.
With a selection of grand, five-star resorts, a marina packed with glistening yachts, and three professional Jack Nicklaus designed golf courses, Cap Cana's a glamorous place to stay. Nature’s on its side, too. The beaches are ranked among the world’s best and there’s a huge ecological reserve on the doorstep. Just so you know, the beaches on this stretch of coastline sometimes experience increased levels of seaweed – called sargassum. It’s influenced by the weather and ocean currents. If your hotel’s affected, the staff will do everything they can to clear it.
Cap Cana perches on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic, so it’s an ideal launching point for boat trips to the surrounding islands. Isla Saona is a real paradise – its beaches are famous for starring in the Bounty chocolate bar adverts. Isla de Mona is more off the beaten track. There, you can explore a barrier reef teeming with life without another tour group in sight.
If you’ve always wanted to see whales in their natural environment, this is a great place to do it. Every year between mid-January and mid-April, more than 300 whales descend on the Dominican Republic’s north-east coast to breed. Take a boat trip out to Samana Bay – within day-tripping distance of Cap Cana – for the best chance of spotting one.
