If you like your beaches bright-white, unspoilt and quiet, you need to book yourself a holiday to Worthing.
Best-of-both Barbados
There are really only two things that Worthing, in Barbados, has in common with its English namesake – it’s next to the sea and quiet. That’s where the comparison ends. Take one look at its pearly white beach and there’s no doubt you’re in the Caribbean, not Sussex. It’s got bubbly neighbours, too – St Lawrence Gap is five minutes’ drive down the coast.
A tropical beach with turtles
Unlike some Barbados beaches, Worthing’s stretch isn’t overflowing with hotels. Here, the feather-soft sands and balmy, blue waters speak for themselves. You can slip on a mask and snorkel and head out to the off-shore reef – when the tide’s out, it’s just a short paddle away. Beneath the waves, tropical fish dart around like tiny synchronised swimmers, while turtles glide between them.
Total relaxation
Worthing might be on the island’s lively south coast, but this place goes against the grain. There are a couple of beachfront restaurants, where you can while the evening away with a glass of rum and a generous helping of Bajan hospitality. Other than that, you’ll want to venture to nearby St Lawrence Gap for your weekly dose of clubs, shops and fast food chains.
