Relationship firsts

New Chapters, New Destinations

Love, life – and a little adventure. In 2026, more Brits are using travel to mark relationship milestones – from first trips as a couple to post-breakup ‘fresh starts’. These aren’t just holidays, they’re declarations.

Our research reveals that 64% would book a holiday to celebrate a major life moment. Big birthdays (56%) top the list, followed by career wins like promotions or house moves (25%), engagements and weddings (19%), and newly single escapes (8%).

When it comes to relationship ‘firsts’, our survey shows a clear split between what people have already done and what they’d still like to do. Many have already ticked off a first couple’s holiday or anniversary trip, but divorce-moons and post-breakup adventures are firmly on the wishlist. For those planning a fresh start, the priorities are clear – rediscovering themselves (31%), stepping out of their comfort zone (22%), and enjoying the freedom to do what they want, when they want (35%).

And what would they do that they couldn’t – or wouldn’t – have done with an ex? Top answers include travelling solo for the first time (25%), joining a group trip with friends (23%), booking a luxury upgrade (21%) and embracing adventure travel (16%) or wellness retreats (21%).
