Family Life Stage Firsts

Who’s coming? Maybe no one

Family dynamics are reshaping how Brits travel. Whether it’s a first trip with a baby, the first holiday with teens, or that liberating first getaway without the kids, 2026 is full of family firsts and emotion is driving the plan.

Our research shows that 27% of parents are planning their first holiday without children, while multigenerational trips remain strong. Other milestones include first holidays as a blended family, first breaks as a single parent and celebratory escapes after kids become adults.

Parents planning a kids-free trip lean towards romantic escapes or bucket-list adventures, while those travelling with a baby prioritise convenience and comfort. For blended families and multigenerational groups, the focus is on experiences that work for every age.

Major life transitions prompt travel for 53% of the people we surveyed, with self-care and slowing down (36%) and trying something new (22%) topping priorities. And, when asked about a first holiday with in-laws, Brits were split – many feel excited or curious to bond, but a significant number admit to nerves about family dynamics.
