Top tips for travelling on your own with kids

Get our top tips for solo travel with kids.
We get it, travelling on your own with a child can be no easy feat, from planning where to go to thinking about what you’re going to do while you’re there, it can seem like there’s so much to organise. Don’t sweat it though – while being the only adult might mean putting in a bit more effort and planning, it doesn’t have to be difficult. So, read on for our top tips and tricks for travelling alone with a child, including how to bag a free kid's place and what’s on offer at our TUI BLUE hotels.

Book early

Free kids’ places are available at selected hotels, and to bag one there needs to be two adults travelling. This doesn’t mean it has to be the other parent, it could be a family member or friend. That way, not only do you get a free kid's place, but you also have an extra pair of hands to help you out while you’re away. Places tend to get snapped up pretty quickly, so we’d always recommend booking early. It also means you have pick of the bunch when it comes to your destination, resort and hotel. Finding a free kid's place is super easy, all thanks to our free kids’ places finder – just pop in your deets and we’ll find the best deals. Plus, booking early means you can lock your holiday in with a low deposit, or even book with a £0 deposit when you choose to spread the cost with Direct Debit.*

Be prepared

Ask any parent who’s travelled alone, and they’ll tell you that being prepared is probably the most important thing you can do to make your holiday run as smoothly as possible. Depending on the destination you’re travelling to, you may need to take your child’s birth certificate with you. This is usually the case if you don’t share the same surname. A letter from their co-parent saying you have permission to travel with them is sometimes needed, too. It might sound a bit daunting but don’t worry, just check the entry requirements before you travel.

Go All Inclusive

If you’re travelling on your own with a child, All Inclusive is the way forward. Anyone with a child knows just thinking of what to feed them is pretty much a full-time job in itself, so seeing as you’re on holiday, why not let someone else think about that? Going All Inclusive means you’ve got unlimited snacks for the little ones to graze on, and it’s also easier to budget because you’ve paid for all your food and drink way before you’ve arrived.

Choose a hotel to suit you

We’ve got so many hotels that get top marks from families, from places that put you right on a sandy beach to spots with more swimming pools than days of the week. Some of the hotels in our TUI BLUE collection come with kids’ clubs, so while your little one is letting off some steam you can relax with a treatment in the spa. And, if your child wants to play in the pool from noon to night, you’ve also got hotels with splash parks and waterslides to go for. There are also plenty of activities on offer at these hotels, from sports to kids’ clubs, there’s always something to do. In the restaurants, there are kids’ buffets serving healthy food at a lower level, so they can help themselves to whatever they fancy. Plus, in some hotels there’s also seating for kids who are too big for highchairs and too small for adult chairs. These hotels are easy to spot too, just look out for the family-friendly icon.
