Hotel Bernerhof

Hotel and Residences in the heart of Wengen. Friendly staff with all-year round facilities for outdoor sport. We rented a residence which was well equipped for a couple, but could accommodate two more in a pinch. Very good restaurant with traditional Swiss fare. The breakfast is a great deal at 11 chf, with a wide assortment of bread, coffee, juice, cereal and other options. Restaurant is reasonably priced and the staff are very courteous and accommodating. They have ski rooms for your gear, and the residences are well suited for a ski trip. There is also a full service dog bathing station in the hotel if that’s important to you. The residences also have a pizza restaurant in their building, which we didn’t try but smells good when you pass. Excellent value and 300 meters to the train station. Would rent again.

points: 1. close to railway station 2. Rooms were clean 3. Thats it Bad points 1. Receptionist is not available all the time. We had to talk to someone in the restaurant to get them 2. No lift, so if you are on 3rd floor like we were, you have to carry all your bags up on your own. There is no help from the hotel 3. The private bathroom is a joke.my husband and I both are tall and we good hardly fit in there. 4. If you do happen to book this place, be sure to ask for a room not facing the church. Clock tower rings every half hour ALL Night and rings the numbers of times the clock shows. So it rings 11 times at 11pm. 5. The room has heaters which cannot be shut. So when we entered our room was boiling and we were told they cannot do anything about it except open windows. So you can imagine how loud the clock tower was with the open windows 6. They don't have kettles in the room. If you want one, you need to deposit 20 franks.Nobody is available at the reception in the morning when you want a kettle or when you want to return it. I would not recommend this place.

We recently stayed in the residence part of the hotel. There are two parts to this property, the Hotel Bernerhof and the residence. You check in at the hotel and the staff weren’t overly friendly, every question seemed to be a hassle for them to answer. Not sure if this was a language barrier or they just didn’t want to help. Room in the residence was large but very basic. It had a small fridge, jug for boiling water with cups, but no tea or coffee supplied. We had a room at the back of the property which overlooked a church, the bells sounded every half and on the hour and as the temperatures were in the high 20’s during our stay, we had to have the windows open.....need I say more about the bells!! There was no fan or aircon in the room. The residence also has no wifi in the rooms, it’s onky accessible in the entrance foyer which had a terrible musty smell. Wengen is a small village in the Jungfrau region and as such the accommodation prices are quite high, as is the food prices. Be prepared to pay a lot more than in the cities. In saying this, the beauty and tranquility of this area is second to none, just stunning.
