View All DealsHolidays to Son Xoriguer have relaxation written all over them – until you hit the watersports on the beach. As for everything else, there's some handy back-up from bigger Cala'n Bosch and Ciutadella.
Son Xoriguer's a peaceful little place on the south-western tip of Menorca, in the Balearic Islands. It comes with a very relaxed vibe, from the clutch of shops, bars and restaurants to the mini-train that gets you around. It’s a different story down at the beach, where watersports rule. As for getting to know the rest of the island, you’re within easy reach of former capital Ciutadella.
The huge line-up of watersports at Son Xoriguer’s beach makes it extremely popular. Meanwhile, the fine white sands dotted with sunbeds are made for relaxing, and there are grassy areas for picnics, too. Should you want to try out other beaches, the one at neighbouring Cala’n Bosch is great for snorkelling around the rocks. And at Cala Blanca – about half-an-hour by bus – the crescent bays are backed by pine trees.
Son Xoriguer keeps a fairy low profile, but it’s handily teamed up with its neighbour, Cala’n Bosch, about five minutes' walk away. Here, there’s a marina, which is pretty much the heart of the place – it’s ringed with shops, bars and restaurants that stay busy from day through to night.
Ciutadella, the former island capital, is only half an hour’s drive away. It’s known as Vella I Bella – the Old and the Beautiful – a fitting name given its narrow cobbled streets, Baroque architecture and elegant former palaces. There’s also a Gothic cathedral here, and a bustling harbour that comes with bars and restaurants, not to mention views of Majorca’s mountains.
